Lifelong learning in Denmark – training and language courses

Lifelong learning is important for development of both your qualifications and for raising the standards of the company where you work.

Here you can learn more about the training courses and your economy during your training courses. You will also learn about the advantages of collective agreement.

Training for working in agriculture - AMU

When you have had ordinary employment in Denmark for 2 weeks, you can participate in these AMU courses which is practical training relevant for your work.

The courses take place during the day during normal workhours. Make sure to arrange with your employer when to go.

Economy for participating in AMU

If you work with a company that is covered by a collective agreement, and have worked there for more than 9 months, you will get your normal salary when participating during your ordinary workhours. Your employer will be able to get refunds of the expenses of your salary.

If you join the courses as a private person or working in a company without a collective agreement, you will get a state financed supplement to your wage of approximately DKK 120 per hour).

Depending on the individual course, there is a small fee for participating in the courses of approximately DKK 150 per day.

AMU in the green sector

In the green sector, there are approximately 350 courses, covering courses in agriculture, horticulture and forestry. All AMU courses are presented and described on www.amukurs.dk. On this web-page you can find relevant courses in agriculture, the price and when and where they take place. However, the description is only in Danish.

Language courses

AMU also offers language courses and training for foreigners in Danish. 

The Danish language centers, De danske sprogcentre, offer a wide range of language courses at different levels for adults. 

Depending on your residential status, you are offered Danish language training for beginners.

  • Level 1 is for people with almost no education from their home country. 
  • Level 2 for people with a short education.
  • Level 3 for people with at least a medium-length or higher education from their home country. 

The language education is offered as day, evening or Saturday courses. The courses are often planned in cooperation with job centres and companies.

Economy

Some of the language courses are free of charge. 

Always coordinate with your employer if you plan to join courses during your normal workday.
