Report to your employer if you become ill
If you become ill, you must inform your employer immediately.
As soon as you are ill and absent of work go to a doctor. Because, there you get a statement of incapacity for work. You have the right to choose a doctor on your own.

This card MUST be accepted by every doctor. They are not allowed to send you away for necessary treatment.
Example:
The area covered by the EHIC applies only to immediate medical needs. That could be a broken leg, sick tooth, viral infection and similar emergencies. Or to ongoing care for chronic conditions such as diabetes.
Sometimes, they ask you to pay your treatment directly. Ensure you get a receipt with the sum you paid and what treatment you received. Hand this receipt in to your health insurance in your home country. They reimburse you.
Your income when you are ill
If you have worked for more than four weeks, you are entitled to continued payment during your illness.
