Inform your employer and get a confirmation
If you become ill and you are unable to work, you must inform your employer immediately. Also, you must go to the doctor to get a statement of incapacity for work.
You must give this statement of incapacity to your employer.
Do you get an income if you are sick?
If you are sick, you get a continued payment of wages in case of illness. The period of pay and the amount depends on the duration of your employment.
At the end of the period of pay of your employer you are entitled to a statutory sick-benefit payment from the regional health insurance fund (Österreichische Gesundheitskasse). This sick-benefit does not correspond to the amount of your wage. A confirmation for the whole period of sickness from the doctor is obligatory to get payment in this case.
